Educational draft: initial reading does not replace academic and community review.
Ecological indicators
Relevant questions concern catch size and composition, bycatch, habitat effects, energy use, construction materials, waste and resource trends. Indicators must fit the gear and setting.
Social and economic indicators
Consider fisher safety, net revenue, operating cost, distribution of benefits, market access and transmission of skills. Catch weight alone is not an adequate assessment.
Testable statements
Rather than asserting kelong are inherently sustainable, pose testable questions about changes in lighting, placement or fish handling and specific measured outcomes.
Learning question
What is actually supported by local sources, and what still requires direct investigation?
